My Favorite burned down-- last month and they are rebuilding..The Clifton Inn outside of Charlottsville..A former home of Thomas Jefferson's brother or cousin..Chef from Culinary Insitute in Hyde Park NY..AWESOME food...

GO to the CLIFTON after the re-open this summer...

My next favorite place to stay in Inn at Little Washington-One of the TOP inns in the US along with it's restaurant...World renowned...

Another great place is the PROSPECT Hill Plantation Inn..Get a room in one of the original slaves's quarters..

L'Auberge Provencale in White Post (near Winchester) is my pick. We spent our honeymoon there and had a romantic, wonderful time. The food is AMAZING. Our room had a lovely deck overlooking farmland.

There are some nice, relaxed B&Bs (not too fussy or elaborate) near Floyd, VA off the Blue Ridge Parkway. Try the Meadowood Bed and Breakfast for something that is relaxed and country-like. It is located right between two wineries and is a short drive into Floyd (where they have a bluegrass festival every summer).

A beautiful view of the mountains, a stocked pond for fishing, a natural spring, lovely places to take a stroll, and a big old porch to sit on. Very relaxing and quiet.

North Bend Plantation in Charles City County, between Williamsburg and Richmond, also close to Petersburg. www.morthbendplantation.com I know the owners, they are grandparents of a playmate of my youngest child, and they throw really fun parties! pool, horses, history, countryside, and convenient to lots of historic sites.

If you like to ride (and I do), the guest house at New Meadow Farm. It's about halfway between Lexington and Staunton: www.newmeadow.net
