Ladies Shoes for Rome!

Hello! I am going to Rome this June and want to look cute in skirts and capris, and with all the walking to be done, good shoes are important. Any thoughts on brands or types that work? Thanks!

Gelatogirl...(LOVE the name, wish I'd thought of it)!

Shoes..don't get me started! I think anything black and comfortable is the way to go! I don't even care about cute as long as they don't kill me (you can read my trip report about my Toxic Shoes)

Go to Zappos.com. You can return them for free - they pay the postage. I like Skechers. You want comfortable and as cool as possible -- but not barefoot, your feet will be filthy. The cobblestones are sometimes uneven and have crakcs. Plan heels accordingly.

We had another thread like this going. I think the general consensus is that the brands Nordstrom's sells are the best. Brands such as: Geox, Ecco, Clarks, Birkenstocks...and many more I can't think of.

I found great shoes, free shipping, free return if they don't fit at walkingonacloud.com

I went to France last year and wore Royal Elastics. Very comfortable - and if I do say so myself, pretty fashion forward.

ditto suggestion for Zappos. If I am not sure of how a brand fits, I order two sizes and send one back. Haven't tried Geox, but have worn the others mentioned and am an Ecco fan. However, I am a middle-aged woman and their shoes can hardly be called cute. Shop around and have a great time in Rome!

The Romans will notice what shoes you are wearing that is for sure.

Nothing will be said but I am sure they are taking mental notes on you.

Even waiters will look down at your feet, Italians appreciate good quality shoes. I would wait and buy some there, oh, that is what I just did on my recent trip.

I'd shoot for Birkenstocks. Now they have a lot of cute, fashionable sandals that, once broken in, will be extremely comfortable & still cute with skirts & capris. Have fun!!

I worried about shoes too and really, just get a good pair of solid walking sandals (Ecco, Born, Clarke, Rockport) and you'll be fine!

From personal experience, I would NEVER plan on wearing a new pair just purchased for a lot of walking you will be doing on any European trip. Have a broken in pair (however so they don't look broken in). Comfort, comfort, comfort. Have a great trip. Halfpint

Merrell has a VERY comfortable nice looking version of Mary Jane's. It's "Spire Emme" and since there are closed toes, no stubbing on the cobblestones but still sandalish for June weather including skirts and capris.

I've just discovered the SoftSpots brand; some of them have very nice, cushy soles and are easy to walk in for hours.

I like these shoes for a short walk from hotel to dinner. Definitely not all day though! http://www.bornshoes.com/asp/shoepage.asp?itemid=W3004
They're Born brand, so they're comfortable, but also very stylin'.
