El-Salamlek Palace Review
Built in the late 19th century by the khedive as a lodge for his Austrian mistress, the Salamlek is Alexandria's most unusual luxurious hotel. Each suite is a unique, charming space, with sloping wood ceilings or arched windows, though the canopy beds and glittering gold furnishings can sometimes feel a touch nouveau riche. The heart-stoppers are the gorgeous tiled terraces in three of the suites—overlooking the royal gardens and the nearby cove, they have wicker furniture practically begging you to lounge, drink in hand, in the late-afternoon sun. You'll feel like you're part of a royal house party.
