Mt. Herzl Military Cemetery

Mt. Herzl Military Cemetery Review

The tranquillity and well-tended greenery of Israel's largest military cemetery almost belie its somber purpose. Different sections are reserved for the casualties of each of the wars the nation has fought. The large number of headstones, all identical, is a sobering reminder of the price Israel has paid for its national independence and security. Note that officers and privates are buried alongside one another—lost lives are mourned equally, regardless of rank.
