As a country kibbutz hotel less than 15 minutes drive from downtown Jerusalem, Ramat Rachel enjoys the best of both worlds. Rooms in the older South Wing have balconies with stunning views of Bethlehem and the Judean Desert. The pleasant if unexceptional decor is offset by the brilliant colors of Calman Shemi quilted "soft art" originals above each headboard. Bathrooms are very small. West Wing guest rooms are decorated in tasteful aquamarines: no balconies, but great views toward Jerusalem. With its fine pool (including a giant waterslide) and other sports facilities, all free to guests, Ramat Rachel feels like an isolated resort. Cheaper hostel rooms are also available.
