When to Go

Israel has several high seasons, but each attracts different types of visitors. The Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) and Sukkot usually fall in September or October, bringing Jewish travelers wanting to celebrate in the Holy Land. Christmas and New Year is a favorite time for Christian pilgrims. In April or March, when Passover and Easter generally coincide, Christian and Jewish tourists crowd religious sites in Jerusalem and the Galilee. July and August are the hottest months, and Israel becomes swamped with beachgoers. The weather is perfect in late September and October, and from April to mid-June, when days are warm enough without being too hot, and nights are comfortable. May and June are in between high seasons and prices are more affordable. The weather is still splendid, and historical sites and other attractions are yet to be filled with tourists.
