It is worth negotiating the pot-holed road to the salt mines just off the Amizmiz road (stop at the turning for the Amizmiz road and walk the last part). For centuries, the Berbers have produced salt here but today's relatively low value of the once highly-prized natural commodity has greatly endangered the livelihoods of the salt-mining families. To support them, be sure to flag down a merchant as you see him riding from village to village on his donkey and if you tour the mines, tip the miners. Don't go on a Saturday as that is when they make their way to the souk at Asni.
