Fishing in Cape Town

Fishing

If you're keen to take to the open ocean for some deep-sea fishing, you'll have plenty of choices, as South Africa has excellent game fish, such as dorado, yellowfin tuna, and broadbill swordfish, which keep salty sea dogs going back for more. Big Game Fishing Safaris (021/674-2203. www.simonstown.com/fishing/safaris) operates a 39-foot luxury catamaran for a day of fishing. You can spend a day with Reel Deep Charters (083/414-6908 or 083/258-0707. www.reeldeep.co.za) out on the deep blue.

In the mountains, just an hour or so away from Cape Town, you'll encounter wild and wily fish in wild and wonderful rivers. The season runs September-May. Inkwazi Fly-Fishing Safaris (083/626-0467 or 021/788-7611. www.inkwaziflyfishing.co.za) offers escorted tours, all the equipment you'll need, and plenty of good advice.
