Dubai Festival City Review
The first of Dubai's megaprojects to enter development stages, Dubai Festival City would be getting much more press if its more recent plans hadn't been so imaginative. The self-sustaining city—complete with living, shopping, sports, and entertainment quarters—is located on the north bank of Dubai Creek. The plan is to transform acres of natural tidal sahbka into a Mediterranean-style marina with a wide, 1.5-mi-long promenade for lengthy strolls. The city will feature cafés and eateries for alfresco dining, and the Festival Waterfront Centre shopping mall, which opened in late 2007. The main hotels that anchor the complex are ready for business and the residential sector is taking shape to the southwest of the mall and marina.
