Getting Oriented

The Pearl River Delta is a massive triangle. Guangzhou is at the top, Shenzhen on the east corner, and Zhuhai on the west. The area as a whole is just a bit too spread out for any one corner to make a good base of operations from which to explore the others. We recommend beginning at one corner and making your way around. Guangzhou is fairly dense, so leave yourself three days in which to soak it all in before heading down to Shenzhen. From Shenzhen's Shekou Harbor it's a one-hour ferry ride to Zhuhai, which takes less than a day to explore before either returning to Guangzhou or heading into nearby Macau or Hong Kong.
