Shanghai Doland Museum of Modern Art
Shanghai Doland Museum of Modern Art Review
Opened in December 2003, this is Shanghai's first official venue for modern art. The six-story museum's 14,400 square feet of exhibition space include a tiny shop selling art books and a metal spiral staircase that's a work of art in itself. The exhibitions, which change frequently, are cutting-edge for Shanghai. They've showcased electronic art from American artists, examined gender issues among Chinese, and featured musical performances ranging from Chinese electronica to the dombra, a traditional Kazak stringed instrument.
