Giant Buddha (Da Fo)
Giant Buddha (Da Fo) Review
At 233 feet, the Giant Buddha is the tallest stone Buddha and among the tallest sculptures in the world. The big toes are each 28 feet in length. The construction of the Giant Budda was started in ad 713 by a monk who wished to placate the rivers that habitually took local fishermen's lives. Although the project took more than 90 years to complete, it had no noticeable effect on the waters. It's possible to clamber down, by means of a cliff-hewn stairway, from the head to the platform where the feet rest. You can also take a boat ride (about Y40) to see the statue in all its grandeur from the river.
