You could join an organized group tour around Turpan, but you'll likely spend too much time in annoying tourist traps. With a slightly more expensive taxi tour you can choose your own itinerary and spend hours roaming the ruins of Jiaohe and Gaochang. In the off-season you may be able to secure a taxi for the day for as little as Y150, although prices of Y250 are more common during the summer.
