Anjuna Beach
Discovered by the hippies in the late 1960s, Anjuna and its palm-lined beaches have had many seasons of glory. Although Anjuna can get very crowded and boisterous, its beach is still not as commercial as Calangute and doesn't have the large-scale luxury resorts you'll find at Sinquerim Beach and in the south. With coconut trees framing the sands against jagged laterite cliffs and boulders, the beach is as popular as ever. Drugs are all too easily available here, too, but they are also highly illegal—even if they seem to be part of the atmosphere. Anjuna is known for its flea market on Wednesday.
