Theeram Nature Conservation Society

Theeram Nature Conservation Society Review

A group of local fishermen started the Theeram Nature Conservation Society when they discovered that the Olive Ridley turtles they'd been eating were an endangered species. The center and its small turtle hatchery are on the beach at Kolavippalam, near Payyoli, about 30 km (19 miles) north of Calicut and off National Highway 17. If you're lucky, you can catch female turtles arriving on the beach in November and December to lay their eggs, which hatch in January and February.
