Dai-ichi Takimoto-kan Review

Contemplate Hell while soaking the soul in one of the 12 different pools overlooking Jigokudani, as more than 1,000 guests a night tuck in at this prime example of Japanese mass tourism. It's always busy, recently with tour groups from Taiwan and Hong Kong. Some of the rooms are a bit worn, but you come here to sit in the sumptuous waters anyway. The hotel now allows swimsuits in some of the outside baths in response to requests from more-shy foreign customers. There's also a daily shuttle bus from Sapporo. Nonguests can bathe for ¥2,000.

    Hotel Details

  • 16 Western-style rooms, 383 Japanese-style rooms.
  • Rate includes some meals.
