Yonehara Beach

Yonehara Beach Review

The most idyllic beach on Ishigaki has great swimming and snorkeling off a hundred-meter-long stretch of clean, sparkling sand. Beach access involves walking through the Yonehara Campground, but as there are rarely any tents up even in the high season, the water will be more or less all yours. Behind a stand of trees in the campground the Orange House rents fins and snorkels; at low-tide the sea life will be beautiful if alarmingly close up, and in high tide the rainbow-color coral and alien-looking sea life are amazing. You can use the Orange House's shower when you return the equipment, and plates of tasty Okinawan yaki-soba will recharge you. If you can't bear to leave, rent a tent and a barbecue set there and catch the sunset. Yonehara is about one hour from Ishigaki by bus or a half hour by car on the island's northern shore.
