Shojiya

Shojiya Review

Yamagata is famous for soba, and Shojiya is the oldest soba restaurant in Yamagata. This newly opened branch is a good place to enjoy the famous noodles. For lunch or a light dinner, try tempura soba (¥1,440) or nameko soba (with mushrooms; ¥990). The immediate area is as interesting as the restaurant; you can see restored irrigation channels where five dams were built in 1623 to control flooding, and nearby are traditional kimono and green-tea shops. It's a 10-minute walk from the JR Station.
