Auga Review

Many tourists arriving in Aomori head to the pyramid-shape ASPAM building, which offers gorgeous waterfront views, but at a price of ¥800, the entry fee for the observation lounge and Panorama Theater is pretty steep. Better is the Auga market complex, where fish, shellfish, preserved seaweed, smoked fish, and fish eggs—in short, all manner of marine organisms—are hawked by hundreds of shopkeepers in 80 stores. It's one block east of JR Aomori Station, on Shinmachi-dori, in the basement level of a modern building with distinctive crimson pillars.
