A short walk from the station will put you in front of some fine and slightly chewy Yamagata soba noodles. Everything is good here, but in summer try the hiyashi-dori soba (with cold chicken). Head south (right) from the East Station Exit, and keep to the street that follows along the tracks until you can cross over them and turn to the right. Then it's just a hop to the traditional black-wood-and-white-stucco building on the left. It is also located on the first floor of S-pal Mall at JR Yamagata Station.
