Of all Chiang Mai's numerous waterfront restaurants, the Riverside is the oldest and most popular. The food, Thai and international, is secondary to the atmosphere, enlivened by a young Thai clientele drawn by the nightly live music. On warm evenings tables are set up on the banks of the Ping River, but beware—this reviewer had an unwelcome visitor at his table when a large python perched its head on the riverbank and waited for scraps like a household pet. But such occurrences are common in Chiang Mai.
