Alice Springs Desert Park

Fodor's Review:

Focusing on the desert, which makes up 70% of the Australian landmass, this 75-acre site presents 320 types of plants and 120 animal species in several Australian ecosystems -- including the largest nocturnal-animal house in the Southern Hemisphere. Local Aboriginal guides are on hand to share their native stories about the wildlife and the land. You should allow about four hours to explore the park; it's 6 1/2 km (4 mi) west of Alice Springs and is on the Alice Wanderer bus itinerary.
