Several domestic airlines connect Canberra with the rest of Australia, including Qantas and its subsidiary Airlink, and Virgin Blue. There are regular (about hourly) flights to Sydney and Melbourne, as well as frequent service to Brisbane. Some direct connections to Adelaide, the Gold Coast, and Perth are available, but most flights to these destinations are still via either Sydney or Melbourne.
Canberra International Airport is the only airport in the area, and is used by large commercial aircraft, small private planes, and the air force alike. Flights are about one-half hour to Sydney, an hour to Melbourne, and two hours to Brisbane. Early flights may be fogged in, especially during winter months, so plan for delays. The airport is 7 km (4 1/2 mi) east of the city center.
