Cairns Tropical Zoo

Cairns Tropical Zoo Review

The 10-acre Cairns Tropical Zoo is home to many species of Australian wildlife, including kangaroos, wombats, dingoes, emus, Southern cassowaries, and reptiles including saltwater crocodiles. Most distinguished among its residents is Sarge, a 17-foot, 660-pound centenarian croc. The park has daily snake, crocodile and bird shows. You can handle and hand-feed koalas and tame kangaroos, and have your photo taken with a koala, boa or baby croc for A$16, or with all three for A$35. Daily Breakfast Time at the Zoo (from A$53, self-drive, including park entry) includes a wildlife presentation on the deck. The sanctuary incorporates Cairns Night Zoo (www.cairnsnightzoo.com) where, five evenings a week, up to 100 guests tuck in to a big barbecue dinner, then get close-up glimpses of Australia's fascinating nocturnal creatures on a guided tour (reservations essential).
