Fitzroy Island Resort Review

The extensively redeveloped reef retreat has new accommodation in four categories and various configurations: self-contained one- and two-bedroom ocean suites, beach cabins, a resort studio, and a four-bedroom penthouse unit. Rooms have a Balinese feel, with tropical ceiling fans, but are far from rustic: think thoroughly modern bathrooms, luxury appointments and LCD TVs. They also have balconies from which to admire the ocean or garden views and, in all but the beach cabins and studio, full kitchen and laundry facilities. The resort's owners also manage the older-style backpacker village, which currently has 11 twin-share rooms for divers and budget travelers and communal ablutions blocks, kitchen and leisure facilities. The island campground has 28 tent sites (A$28 per night) in rain-forest environs with a modern ablutions block, communal cooking facilities, BBQs and an undercover eating area. Buy ice and other supplies from the Pacific Islands Tradiing Store. The main resort restaurant serves buffet breakfasts, lunches, and à la carte dinners; Foxy's Bar and Café, about 350 yards away, has quality cafe-style food, a terrific sound system, and live entertainment most weekends. There's also a resort pool (and pool bar), a day spa, function/conference facilities, a cinema, games, and play rooms. A small boutique sells gift items and resort wear; there's also a dive shop.
