Heron Island Resort Review

Set among palm trees and connected by sand paths, this secluded, eco-certified resort offers six accommodation types, from the deluxe Beach House with private outdoor shower and beach boardwalk to the comparatively compact, garden-level Turtle Rooms. Large, elegantly modern suites with CD players, well-stocked minibars, separate lounge areas, and furnished private decks or terraces merit the extra expense. Room rates include breakfast, or book a package that includes all meals (A$69 additional per day). There's an Aussie barbecue every Tuesday night. Complimentary activities include non-motorized water sports, guided walks, stargazing, trivia nights, and outdoor movie screenings. Snorkeling and diving excursions cost extra, as does the kids' program, run during Australian school holidays. The delightful Aqua Soul Spa offers treatments with marine-based and natural botanical products, and a spa menu (one package includes a bottle of bubbly, consultation, and 2 hours of treatments for A$270). The resort shop is well stocked.
