Bus information for service from Perth is available from Transperth (13-6213 www.transperth.wa.gov.au). Their Central Area Bus Service (CAT) provides free transportation around Fremantle in orange buses. The route begins and ends outside the Fremantle Bus/Train Terminus, and stops include the Arts Centre, the cappuccino strip, and the Fremantle Market. CAT buses run every 10 minutes weekdays 7:30-6:30, and 10-6:30 on weekends and public holidays.
Trains bound for Fremantle depart from Perth approximately every 20-30 minutes from the Perth Central Station on Wellington Street. You can travel from Perth to Fremantle (or vice versa) in about 30 minutes. Tickets must be purchased at the ticket vending machines prior to travel. It is illegal to travel without a ticket.
If you are driving from downtown Perth, the most direct route is via Stirling Highway, from the foot of Kings Park; it will take about 35 minutes, depending on traffic.
