Nambung National Park

Nambung National Park Review

Set on the Swan coastal plain 245 km (152 mi) north of Perth, now accessible in just under two hours along a scenic coastal drive, Nambung National Park surrounds its most famous attraction: the Pinnacles Desert. Over the years, wind and drifting sand have sculpted eerie limestone forms that loom as high as 15 feet. These "pinnacles" are actually the fossilized roots of ancient coastal plants fused with sand, and you can walk among them along a 1.2 km (0.7 mi) return walk that starts at the parking area. There's also a 3-km (2-mi) one-way Pinnacles Desert Loop scenic drive (not suitable for large RVs or buses). August through October the heath blazes with wildflowers. Note the "No's:" No dogs, no bins, no drinking water although water is available to purchase at the interpretative centre and gift shop. Entrance fees are A$11 per car. Call 08/9652-7043 or 9652-1911 for more information.
