Taxi Dining Room Review

Occupying an innovatively designed steel-and-glass space above Federation Square, Taxi boasts both extraordinary food and spectacular views over Melbourne. East meets West on a menu that combines Japanese flavors—tuna tataki chased by udon noodles in a mushroom hot pot—with such European-inspired fare as pork hock with coconut caramel and apple puree. Tempura whiting, salt-and-pepper-fried duck, and an impressive list of New and Old World wines add to the mix.

Great food, great service, high prices

We were able to walk in on a weeknight by taking seats at a bar, side-by-side, but were told otherwise they booked a week in advance. The food and wine were exceptional, as was the service. My only question is whether the prices are justified, although I grant there is a class of restaurants with similar prices. But going to a place I can't even cover on a corporate expense account is a luxury I can't afford to repeat too often.
