Getting Here and Around

Renting a car in Melbourne and driving south along the Nepean Highway is the most practical way of seeing the Mornington Peninsula. At Frankston you can take the Frankston-Moorooduc Highway or stay on the Nepean Highway—eventually they both merge into the Mornington Peninsula Highway, which continues south to the various bayside towns. A train runs from Flinders Street Station to Frankston. At Frankston, connect with a diesel-train service to towns on the east of the peninsula including Hastings, Bittern, Point Crib, and Stony Point. Buses also run from Frankston to the bayside towns; the No. 781 bus goes to Mornington and Mount Martha and the No. 782 bus travels to Hastings and Flinders on the Western Port side.

Inter Island Ferries runs a passenger service from Stony Point (on the eastern side of the peninsula) to Phillip Island, while the Queenscliff-Sorrento car and passenger ferry is the best way to travel between these two towns on opposite sides of the bay. The Frankston and Peninsula airport shuttle bus runs from Melbourne Airport's international terminal to Frankstown and several other Mornington Peninsula towns.
