Waisalima Beach Resort Review
Guests make quick friends with staff and villagers at this simple, intimate resort on Kadavu's eastern tip. Painter Maureen Riggs moved her family here to escape the high-rise development of Australia's Gold Coast and the resort's ties with the local community make it clear that this is a home first, a resort second. Many guests come for the on-site dive shop, which offers highly personalized instruction (sometimes one-on-one); other popular activities include day trips to waterfalls and snorkeling trips to a nearby beach with picnic lunches, and visits to a nearby village. Bures were built and existing ones renovated in 2008. Two are right on the water and each is basically appointed with a double and two single beds, a simple bathroom and covered deck. There are also three dorm-bures that each sleeps three. Hearty Fijian-influenced fare is served buffet-style in an open dining room, the floor of which is a stunning tiled mosaic of the island. Eggs for breakfast are found wherever the truly "free-range" chickens decide to lay them.
