Charlotte Jane Review

Once a girls' school, this expansive 1891 villa now oversees guests instead of disciplined students, and its luxurious Victorian style introduces visitors to the English heritage of Christchurch. The centrally located house brims with gorgeous elements: the Victorian veranda, a stained-glass window above the entrance depicting the Charlotte Jane (one of the first four ships to bring settlers to Christchurch), a native kauri- and rimu-wood staircase, a rimu-paneled dining room, and period furniture throughout the 12 period guest rooms. It's an easy walk from the shopping and restaurants and bars at Merivale.
