Heritage Hanmer Springs Review

First built in 1897, this getaway reopened in 1932 after a devastating fire, as the Hanmer Lodge; it was the largest hotel in Australasia at the time. Stay in recently refurbished rooms inside the hotel or take a garden suite in among the pine trees; there are also 3-bedroom villas on the rise above the hotel, around a man-made pond. Hotel decoration reflects its country heritage, with the public spaces retaining their colonial simplicity, much as they have for years. The rooms, however, are comfortable and more contemporary in finish. The thermal springs are a short walk away. Breakfast is served on the front courtyard or in Isobel's Restaurant.
