Ridge Country Retreat Review

Set on 35 acres—a 30 minute drive from town—the lodge overlooks a brilliant green valley, all the way to Mauao and the ocean. The outdoor (geothermally heated) pool has stellar views. The in-room hot tubs and the private outdoor baths are also filled with geothermal mineral water sourced on the property. Beautifully furnished suites have private balconies and heated bathroom floors, but the best room is the dining room, with its huge stone fireplace, a wall of windows, and a 22-foot-high beamed ceiling. Breakfast is included and magnificent, hosts Penny and Joanne pull out all the stops. Dinners are available on request. Massage and beauty treatments are also available, and there are walking paths throughout the native forest on the property. Some guests like to arrive by helicopter.
