Puke Ariki Review

Across the road from the Wind Wand is the region's heritage, research, and information center. Though not as large as Wellington's Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa, Puke Ariki displays tell compelling stories of the region, from its volcanic inception, to the Land Wars, to the discovery of natural oil and gas in 1959, to today's surfing culture. Interactive science exhibits for children are on the lower level. The café is worth a stop, too, as the presence of many locals will tell you.
