Hollard Gardens

Hollard Gardens Review

Surrounded by dairy farms, the Hollard Gardens were created by dairy farmers Bernie and Rose Hollard, who, in 1927, fenced a 14-acre patch of native bush on his farm and started what is now a Garden of National Significance. There are two distinct sections, one an old woodland garden of mature native and exotic trees, with closely underplanted rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, and perennials, the other a more recent creation. Broad lawns, paths with mixed borders, hidden paths, childrens' play area and vistas of Mt. Taranaki are features of the more recent garden, established in 1982. The gardens are managed by the Taranaki Regional Council for all to enjoy. They are particularly colorful during the rhododendron flowering season from September to late November.
