Kauri Cliffs Lodge Review

Several holes of a par-72 championship golf course sweep past this cliff-top lodge which is truly outstanding. Ocean views reach to the Cavalli Islands; you also overlook three private beaches—one shimmering pink. The spa specialty is the six-hour "Ultimate Revival" treatment (NZ$850). There is a special for men which takes three hours and costs NZ$420. If you want some time being looked after while being alone take the owner's cottage at NZ$9,000 plus a night.

Regal Cliffside Escape
Built on the ruggedly beautiful terrain of the northern edge of the country, the Kauri Cliffs is an off-the-beaten-path slice of heaven for hard-core golf enthusiasts. Perched on the edge of the dramatic seaside bluffs of the North Island, this Dave Harman-designed 18-hole course has panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean, Cape Brett, and the Cavalli Islands—15 of the greens are perched on what feels like the edge of the earth. Non-golfers can take advantage of a full slate of activities like tennis, chef-prepared picnics on the beach, wine tours, and hot-air balloon rides. The Lodge itself is the epitome of understated elegance and the twenty-two cottages each have private porches and elegantly appointed sitting rooms with fireplaces.
