Eichardt's Private Hotel Review

Once patronized by miners during the 1860s gold rush, the pricey Eichardt's now welcomes flush travelers drawn by the rush of adventure sports. Guest rooms are done in rich cocoa brown and cream; all have sitting areas with fireplaces, dressing rooms, and bathrooms with heated floors and double vanities. You can request a lake or mountain view. The staff is exceptionally helpful and can arrange anything from a massage to a helicopter ride. The House Bar ($$$) has delicious takes on lamb and salmon, along with an impressive selection of Otago and other New Zealand wines. Eichardt's now has cottages with full kitchens, two bedrooms, and a common area in a nearby building.
