The Boat Shed

$$$-$$$$, New Zealand, Nelson

User Rating: ** 2.2

Fodor's Review:

The name is no gimmick: this genuine boat shed perches on wooden piles with the tide lapping below. The restaurant offers what they call an "Aotearoa" menu, showcasing Kiwi cuisine. Freshly harvested crab, crayfish, and green-lipped mussels are all standouts. There's local art on display, and on Wednesday evenings in summer you can watch the local sunset yacht racing from the balcony.

Overrated - Resting on its Laurels?

Posted by dktenor from Chicago on 5/20/07

Service was poor. Server didn't know the menu and had to go back to get answers to our questions several times. Service was inattentive - except at the end when they were trying to clear out the place. I ordered the "daily special" and was later informed that it was sold out. The replacement (when I asked what type of fish it was, the server couldn't answer) was dried up and unappetizing.
