Getting Oriented
The northern islands of Andros, Bimini, and the Berries lie just off the east coast of Florida. Bimini, which consists of three main islands—North, South, and East Bimini—is only 50 mi from Miami. The Berry Islands are a 30-cay chain about 100 mi east of Bimini. South of Chub Cay—Berry's southernmost island—Andros comprises the Bahamas' largest landmass—about half of all the Bahamas' land in total. North and Central Andros occupy the largest of the three major islands, while South Andros is separated from it by North and Middle Bight. South Bight splits South Andros into two parts. On their eastern shores, magnificent remote beaches stretch along most of these northern islands. Vast mangrove estuaries and swamps characterize their western leeward coasts.
