Bermuda's most populous parish is anchored by the city of Hamilton: a bustling little capital referred to as "the town" by locals. Along with major historical attractions, Hamilton has by far the broadest array of restaurants, shops, clubs, and cultural venues. Plus, there are top-rated resorts (among them, the Fairmont Hamilton Princess and Waterloo House) as well as a host of smaller properties that put you within walking distance of it all. Because of its small size, the city can feel crowded once cruise ships dock. However, nearby sites like Fort Hamilton and the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute offer a peaceful respite not far from the standard tourist route. Many sightseeing boats and water-bound excursions also depart from Hamilton Harbour.
