Bird-watching in Cayman Islands

Bird-watching

Silver Thatch (345/945-6588 or 345/916-0678) is run by Geddes Hislop, who knows his birds and his island. He specializes in natural and historic heritage tours. The cost is $45 per person for 2 to 10 people, $50 for the early-morning bird-watching-botanic-park tour. Serious birders leave at the crack of dawn, but you can choose the time and leave at the crack of noon instead.

Little Cayman

Booby Pond Nature Reserve is home for 5,000 pairs of red-footed boobies (the largest colony in the western hemisphere) and 1,000 magnificent frigate birds. You may catch black frigates and snowy egrets competing for lunch in dramatic dive-bombing battles. The sanctuary is near the airport, is open to the public, and has a gift shop and reading library.
