The old du Pont mansion, Varadero's only true boutique hotel, has only a half-dozen rooms so it often sells out. If you can't get a reservation, stop by to ask about a cancellation, as this noble villa, the product of a millionaire's fancy, is truly elegant. Winston Churchill—and more recently Vladimir Putin and members of the Kennedy family—are just some notable guests who have stayed here. The upper-story restaurant ($$-$$$, reservations essential) is one of the peninsula's prettiest places to dine, even if the food is a bit overpriced and below par. Just enjoy the views and the experience of living it up like a du Pont.
