Casa Natal de José Antonio Echeverría
Casa Natal de José Antonio Echeverría Review
The neoclassical Casa Natal de José Antonio Echeverría, now the municipal museum, is named for a student leader murdered by Fulgencio Batista's forces in 1957 and is also known as Museo de la Lucha Estudiantil (Museum of the Student Struggle). Built in 1873, the two-story town house has a lovely hand-carved wooden spiral staircase. Its top floor is filled with Echeverría memorabilia, along with photographs and documents of other local Revolutionary heroes. Ask about the machine-gun barrel upstairs if you favor gory stories.
