Fodor's Review:

A man's home is his castle. In this one, Doug Beers prepares creative lunches and dinners for guests who traverse the rocky driveway to enjoy this one-of-a-kind experience. His wife, Marguerite, is the gracious hostess, who shows patrons their home and the artwork strategically positioned between the many open-air arches. Served on antique lace tablecloths strewn with bougainvillea, the well-orchestrated dinner might consist of canapés, carrot-ginger soup, salad niçoise, snapper with a coconut-passion fruit sauce, rosemary potatoes, chocolate mousse and coffee. After, Doug lights a fire in the great room and offers guests a liqueur to warm their interior.

The Castle Club offered an excellent dining experience, the poisson was just right. Doug and Marguerite make you feel at ease in this charming setting. Will return again in October.

Highlight of my trip to the DR

Posted by Jen from New Jersey on 11/13/05

I was lucky enough to go to the DR with friends who'd been there before and been referred to the Castle Club. We went for dinner on a Friday night, it was just our party of 6, Doug & Margaritte. It was an awesome time. Their house is BEAUTIFUL, their views are BEAUTIFUL, and the food was great. Yes the driveway is long and full of potholes but it wasn't my car that took the abuse, it was the taxi driver's. These folks are not commercial at all - I commend their ability to make people from all over the world feel at home. The dinner and drinks there cost us LESS than the highway robbery along the beach in Cabarete. Get yourself a good local driver and get out there. We paid $30 RT for a driver from Cabarete.

the trip up the "mountain" was more than worth it.

It was a beautiful setting and I very much enjoyed my visit. I especially loved the soup, a warm orange color I think it was a ginger soup, my memory is not to great, if it's possible I would love to have that recipe so I could enjoy it once more to remember it like I was there again. Thankyou
