Bellmen, who look snappy in their pith helmets, are stationed at the entrance of the handsome Carib-Indonesian lobby. The pools cascade into each other with awesome, panoramic views of Sosúa Bay; rooms in buildings 3 and 4 share those views. Although not the shining star it was initially, the hotel is in the midst of some painting and room and infrastructure refurbishing. (It is no longer a Starz Resort.) The rotunda buffets are still better than the norm -- particularly on Seafood Night -- but now the specialty restaurants get the vote. At night, couples kiss under the gaslights to the sounds of "Bésame mucho."
