Malecón Center Review

Located just east of the Hilton Santo Domingo, Malecón Center is a four-story shopping and movie theater complex that is largely empty with the exception of a few shops. There are Shangra La Men's Salon, a Tony Roma's Restaurant, and a few kiosks selling cheap sunglasses on the first floor. On the second floor is Shanell Galeria de Arte selling quality Caribbean-style fine art, and also La Leyenda del Cigarro selling fine cigars. On the third floor is Malecón Center Cinemas, showing current U.S. movies. The rest of the shopping complex looks frozen in mid-construction, if not ruinous. Be prepared to climb stairs as the escalators may not be running and elevators didn't look trustworthy. Hopefully this sprawling, cavernous shopping mall will see better days in the future.
