Seeing the Real Jamaica

An excellent way to get out to see more of the real Jamaica (and to meet down-to-earth Jamaicans) is by signing up for the Jamaica Tourist Board's free program called Meet the People (www.visitjamaica.com). Through the program, teachers might opt to visit a local school, parents to meet a Jamaican family for a day of fun on the beach, or flower lovers to go on a stroll through local gardens with a fellow botanist. You should sign up online with the tourist board in advance of your trip so the office can match you with a volunteer, but this is an ideal opportunity to find out that Jamaica is about more than beaches and fruity rum drinks.
