Tropical Mansion Suites Review

Despite the grandiose name, this is little more than a motel with neocolonial architectural pretensions and clean, spacious rooms. A slight soullessness pervades the space, which lacks the warmth of family-run guesthouses. Nonetheless, it's the most "modern" hotel on the island and quite comfortable; flat-screen TVs are being added gradually, and old island photos enhance the ambience. It has an upscale motor-lodge look, but balconies (save for Room 202, where Prince Philip stayed) regrettably face the interior courtyard, rather than the verdant sweep of hills undulating down to the sea. Insist on patio seating at the rather institutional basement restaurant. Meals are mostly buffet and adequate, if overpriced.
