Fodor's Review:

How many hotels can claim to have their own fort? Fuerte San Gerónimo, which once guarded the entrance to San Juan Bay, is on the grounds of this sprawling resort, which also has a private beach, a luxurious spa, and one of the best-developed kids' programs on the island. (There's even an hour of free babysitting, so you can have a grown-up meal at Morton's or one of the other on-site restaurants.) Unfortunately, the guest rooms are a little past their prime, and the open-air lobby is crowded, noisy, and free of any charm whatsoever. The staff can seem disorganized at times.

Great For a Long Relaxing Weekend Stay

Posted by GeorgeGFH from Rockland County, New York on 5/21/08

We arrived on a Friday morning and checked in about 12:00pm. Checked out on Monday and had one of the most relaxing weekends ever! Best deal is to get the Executive rooms plus breakfast buffet at Palmeras. The room was perfect and what a view of the beach and fort (on the Normandie Hotel side)! We loved Mortons Steakhouse and Madrid restaurants which are located right on the premises. The Atlantico bar & Grill, located right IN the pool is great for cooling down and having a quick and enjoyable lunch. The french fries were delicious. We actually fell asleep on the hammocks on the beach till 1:30am. The lack of a casino makes the hotel peacefull but if you desire a "louder" nightlife a $10.00 cab ride brings you to the town. We're coming back next year for sure!

Beware Unrenovated Rooms

Posted by LindaSue from Arlington, VA on 2/12/07

The grounds of this resort hotel are beautiful and the location is great, but the hotel itself has seen better days. We were assigned to the Garden Wing, which is unrenovated, depressing and broken. The bathrooms didn't work, lighting fixtures were taped (scary) and there was only one maid per floor, so rooms were not cleaned until very late in the day. These rooms were ugly and uncomfortable. Beware.

Enjoyed our stay!

Posted by thetideone from Mobile, AL on 11/10/06

After reading reviews we were very hesitant about this hotel but were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The hotel grounds & pool are beautiful and the rooms were up to date & clean. The staff (dining; front desk; service) were available and pleasant. The hotel is situated away from some of the others so it lacks some night life but there's a nice lobby bar with a little too "loud" music nightly and "pricey" drinks but overall I'd definately recommend a stay there. If possible, stay on the executive floor - the benefits definately outweigh the slight extra cost.
